Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet has said that governors will not be allowed to use police chase cars in their caravans.
In a letter he addressed to all regional commanders, the police chief said that any officer who breaks the new directive will meet disciplinary action.
“The police headquarters has noted with a lot of concern that police vehicles and police officers are escorting county government officials across the country and sometimes clearing roads for them at the expense of other road users. This must never occur again,” he said as quoted by the Star.
He also warned county government officials that any move to use the wrong side of the road would also be punishable.
“Besides the presidency, all other protocols regarding chase cars and escorts are done as directed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” he added.
This comes moments after the State withdrew the security details of Mombasa and Kilifi governors Hassan Joho and Amason Kingi respectively.
