For many years, the question of whether Migingo Island belongs to Kenya or Uganda has remained unanswered.
This has brought about conflict on the fish rich island.
Up to now no answer has been given, something that was evident when inspector general of police Joseph Boinett was asked by journalists to tell Kenyans which country owns Migingo Island.
On Wednesday, Boinett together with his Ugandan counterpart, Kale Kayihura signed an agreement that aims at ensuring that peace prevails in Migingo island.
Officers from both countries will work together to maintain law and order in Migingo.
Following reports of alleged resurgence of criminal activities in Migingo in Lake Victoria, the inspectors general of police in Kenya and Uganda visited the island on 17 of this month.
They both agreed to convene a joint task force comprising of officers from both sides to calm the situation.
