Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinett has told off those criticizing the force for acquiring modern weaponry ahead of the August 8 polls.

The weapons which include armoured vehicles, anti riot gear, teargas canisters and choppers have been acquired on the backdrop of an impending General Elections a move that has created specualtions among Kenyans on the motive of the Jubilee government.

But in a recent interview, the IG said that the equipment is aimed at bettering the police force and not to oversee mischief.

He added that only those who are up to no good should be worried about the recent acquisitions.

"This is not the Kenya police force of the old days. It's a modern day National Police Service that must be equipped with modern logistics. They are meant to help us work better and not to oversee mischief. So only those who are up to no good should be woriried, " he told Citizen Tv's JKL Live.

Boinett added that the police will always remain apolitical in any electioneering period and asked Kenyans not to panick.
