The Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinett has been ordered to file an urgent response to a suit where parents of a student killed in the Garissa University attack are seeking compensation from the State.
The case court directive emerged on Wednesday at the High Court after it was discovered that the IG and the Attorney General were yet to file affidavits.
Justice Edward Mureithi of the High Court said that apart from the duo filing their responses, they will also be served with a notice of the hearing.
He fixed a further date of mention to happen in two weeks time and directed the forenamed parties to appear in court in person on July 27 for directions.
The parents of Samuel Michire, a Garissa University student who was gunned down alongside had filed a petition in court through their lawyer Ndegwa Njiru seeking compensation.
The parents now want the courts to declare that the state security organs neglected their duties by failing to protect their son.
If the court approves the petition, then the state will be forced to compensate the families of the 147 fallen students.
