Boinnet says that law enforcers will not tolerate hate mongers as the country heads to the August 8 general election.

Speaking on NTV on Sunday, the IG said that police are working closely with National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) and other government agencies to crack down on inciters.

He said that a multi-agency team has been put in place to monitor political campaigns with aim of curbing hate speech and to guarantee peaceful polls.

“A multi agency team comprising various government agencies is already  in place to track and monitor hat mongers before, during and after the August 8 polls,” he said during the interview.

Boinnet at the same time said that investigations into alleged hate remarks by National Assembly leader of Majority Aden Duale are underway.

Boinnet said that they have received an audio tape on the alleged Duale’s hate remarks and forwarded it to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

The IG said stern action will be taken on those who are behind the tape.

Duale is accused of allegedly inciting Garissa locals against Kambas living in the constituency.

In an audio clip doing rounds on social media, a voice purported to be of Duale is heard asking youths not to allow Kambas to register as voters in the area.

A section of Kamba leaders have since condemned Duale over the alleged hate remarks and called for his arrest and prosecution.

Duale has however defended himself against the audio clip terming it as propaganda.
