Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet has urged county governments to work with the national government on security matters.
Speaking when he paid a courtesy call to Kiambu Governor William Kabogo at his Kiambu office on Wednesday, the Inspector General of Police said that security across the county will be streamlined if county and national government work together.
Boinnet said that the security measures being implemented by the national government will work if they get the support of county governments.
“County governments should work closely with the national government in order to provide and guarantee security of every citizen,” said Boinnet.
He stated that the national government has initiated various security measures to boost security. He cited the Nyumba Kumi security initiative which he said has helped in curbing crime. The IG urged county security officials to educate residents on the community policing being introduced by the government.
Boinnet assured Kenyans of their security this festive season saying that every mechanism has been out in place to provide security.
“Kenyans should not fear but enjoy their festive season freely because their security has been guaranteed,” said Boinnet.
Boinnet said that police officers who had taken leave have been recalled to boost surveillance across the county.
On his part, Governor Kabogo said that his government will work with the national government on security. Kabogo said that his government has supported security measures aimed at guaranteeing security of residents in the county.
“We will fuel police cars to enable them patrol every corner of Kiambu with the aim of providing security to residents this festive season,” he said.
Kabogo said that his government recognises the need for security in development adding that he will work with county security officials to provide security.
