The Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinett has issued a stern warning to police officers who dress like civilians during night patrols, saying that they will face a legal action.
The IG noted that the behavior has been dominant to officers working in urban areas and has to be stopped with immediate effect.
In a Memo directed to Police officers, Boinnet said that by so doing, the service men and women were going against the dress code of conduct.
“It has been noticed with concern that members of the service, especially in urban areas, use civilian clothes in their patrol duties,” said IG.
The Police boss further noted that a strict disciplinary action will be taken to officers who defy the order.
The move is meant to improve police conduct as well as enhance service delivery to the citizens after recent sharp criticism from the public and politicians on how the officers have been conducting themselves.
The Judiciary through Chief Justice David Maraga had earlier urged the service to conduct themselves in a professional manner and respect the law.
