According to Boinnet, the island is peaceful due to the existing good working relationship between Kenyan police officers and their Ugandan counterparts guarding the fish-rich Lake Victoria Island.

"I want to confirm that the Island is very peaceful and for the past few months we have had no issues," said Boinnet.

Boinnet was speaking at the Island on Wednesday after a security meeting with his Ugandan counterpart General Kale Kayihura.

The IG said that the aim of the security meeting was to iron out a few issues raised by officers manning the island.

"We have had a very fruitful working relationship, only that a few unknown characters want to spoil it, but we are determined to ensure that the island is peaceful for a prosperous economic growth for the region," Boinnet said.

Boinnet's sentiments were echoed by Kayihura who stated that his government is doing everything to ensure the island's residents cp-exited in peace.

The two police bosses further appealed to fishermen from the island to seek proper documentations when going for deep sea fishing.
