Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet has responded to the Judicial Service Commission’s claims that he has been rejecting calls to tighten the security of judicial officers amid threats from political players.
In a statement on Tuesday evening, JSC through Chief Justice David Maraga said judicial officers were receiving threats especially after the Supreme Court nullified the presidential poll results.
Maraga accused Boinnet of ignoring their plea to boost the security of judges.
"The Judicial Service Commission notes with dismay that the Inspector General of police who is expected to provide security to all government facilities has repeatedly ignored calls to act exposing judicial officers and litigants to danger,” said CJ Maraga on Tuesday.
Maraga said those threatening judicial officers will be responsible in case anything happens to them and their family members. In a rejoinder, Boinnet dismissed the CJ’s statement, saying all judicial officers are well guarded.
“The truth of the matter is that all judges have police bodyguards attached to them as well as their residences. We also provide security to all court houses; and as the situation demands in some circumstances, we enhance security with a view to ensuring that court houses and Judicial officers are secure,” said the IG through George Kinoti.
