Inspector General of Police, Joseph Boinnet has denied claims that police used live bullets to disperse Cord protesters seeking the removal of IEBC from office.
Boinnet said that such claims are false as he is only aware that his officers only used teargas to disperse protesters.
"I am not aware that any of the officers used live bullets. Officers only used teargas to disperse the protesters," said Boinnet.
The IG, however, said that his office will investigate if any live bullets were used and the responsible officers will be punished.
“We are going to investigate the matter and take action against the responsible officers," said Boinnet.
Opposition leaders had earlier accused the police of using live bullets to disperse their supports. The protesters were dispersed while gathering and waiting on an address from leaders who were leading the protests.
It is alleged that police used live bullets that left a dent on the windscreen of Raila Odinga's car. However, Raila could not verify whether it was a bullet or any other object that left a dent on the windscreen as he was not in the vehicle. He, however, maintained that the protests were peaceful until the police provoked them with brutality and violence.
