[Photo/Nation]The government has refuted claims that it has sacked a police officer attached to the National Super Alliance (Nasa) principal Moses Wetangula.Simon Lonyai is reported to have been dismissed from the police service following a Monday scuffle with police officers manning the Supreme Court's entrance after he allegedly insisted to be allowed in while still armed so as to protect Wetangula.He was then arrested and disarmed before facing charges on Tuesday.Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinett through his Deputy Joel Kitili, has however denied that the Bungoma elect senator's bodyguard has been sacked as reports indicate.In a statement dated Tuesday, August 29, Boinnet said that disciplinary procedures on Lonyai were still ongoing.According to Chapter 29 of the National Police Service Standing Orders (SSO), there are various ways to discipline an errant police officer but the the punishment should be proportional to the alleged offence.Wetangula on Tuesday protested his bodyguard's dismissal noting that he has taken the matter to court.
