Contrary to an earlier report that said police had killed over 30 people in post-election protests, Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet has said that only four have been killed.
Speaking to journalists in Nairobi on Friday, the IG also said some six police officers sustained injuries from violent youths participating in anti-election the demos.
He said several incidences were reported from counties including Nairobi, Migori, Kitui, Garissa, Homa Bay and Kisumu.
Others were Meru, Siaya, Lamu, Mombasa, Kisii, Narok, Busia and Kakamega.
He did not however give details of the killings.
Over Bungoma, Boinnet said they are yet to get finer details and will issue a statement later.
He urged civilians to cooperate with the police in maintaining peace in the country, adding that the police force does not favour any political side.
"It should be known to all that the service serves all Kenyan people in strict fidelity to the law and will always act without partiality or regard to political affiliation," he said.
