The schools have resumed for 3rd term across the country for the shortest term ever in Kenyan curriculum following the changes in the ministry of Education, but there was drama on Wednesday at Birongo Primary school in Kisii county as the BOM and parents stormed the school protesting over the new head teacher who was posted there after the latter retired.
They congregated at the field and decided to close the school accusing the Ministry officials of going against their agreement that the deputy head was to be promoted.
Led by the BOM chairman Johnson Bundi, they said they would not sit back and watch as their center of excellence is being handed to a non-performing head teacher who has since been chased from Riotero, Nyansira, and Kari Primary Schools.
“Our school has been performing well and we hope that the Deputy was to be promoted since he understands the school well rather than having someone who has been chased from other schools,” Bundi said.
They vowed to stay home with children until the matter is resolved by urging Education officers to settle the matter.
However, after holding talks with the Sub-county Director of Education, TSC staffing officer and the area MCA Mr Godfrey Nyamache, they agreed that they should not step into the school compound as the matter is being resolved.
Nyamache has urged parents to bring students back to school to school to avoid further wastage of time to study as this is the final term in the Kenyan academic calendar.
