Residents of Bomachoge-Chache constituency have accused their Member of Parliament of allegedly 'sleeping on the job', by failing to deliver in his pre-election pledges.
Speaking on Tuesday at Omoringamu village in the constituency, the angry parents accused Hon. Simon Ogari of failing to disburse bursaries to students in the institutions of higher learning on time, besides failing to respond to their persistent concerns about the level of education.
They further accused the MP of awarding students from the region little funds, with the highest allocated amount being only Sh4,000, compared to up to Sh10,000 in neighbouring constituencies.
“We are really concerned with the slow rate at which the MP is awarding bursaries, and many students ends up missing them at the time when they are in need of them. The rate at which the money is awarded is quite worrying, it will be essential if the amount is increased,” said Charles Masese.
They were unanimous that the MP will find it difficult to be re-elected if the trend does not change before the next polls in 2017.
“Education and infrastructure are the pillar to development which to be precise, the MP has completely failed. He will have to change tact if at all he wants to come back to parliament in the next polls,” added Irene Kemunto.
However, the second term legislator’s spokesperson Alvas Ongeri rubbished the claims, and labeled the aggrieved as academically unfocused since the constituency has ‘thousands of needy students’ who depend on the CDF kitty.
