Coast Regional Commander Francis Wanjohi has said the team will detonate explosives planted along the roads by al-Shabaab militants.

“The government will definitely dispatch bomb experts to detonate the explosives. Construction of roads along the Kenya-Somalia border is part of operation Linda Boni strategy that must be achieved,” said Wanjohi, as quoted by Radio Jambo.

The commander said the alarm was raised after several people lost their lives in the recent past following attacks along Kiunga-Baragoi-Milimani area.

This comes after several Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldiers were last week injured after their tanker ran over an IED at Ishakani area, Lamu East.

The soldiers were making preparations in the area ahead of the erection of a perimeter wall on the Lamu-Somali border.

The militants are said to target security soldiers who were deployed in the area to carry out the Linda Boni operation, aimed at smoking out the terrorists from the forest which is said to be their hideout.
