Bomb experts in Lodwar town detonated a rocket-propelled grenade found at Makuti Estate on Wednesday evening after it was discovered by children playing.
The Lokichoggio Kenya Defence Forces border camp experts took the weapon and detonated it at a safe distance away from the public.
Children discovered the bomb and were trying to open it as a play thing before an adult saw it and reported to police on suspicion that it resembled the bombs seen in movies.
Confirming the occasion, Turkana Central OCPD Kipkemboi Kirui revealed that the 60-millimetre explosive was still active and could have detonated with the potential to destroy property a kilometre away.
The building where it was discovered has since been manned by police after the residents were ordered to leave.
