Bonchari Constituency Development Fund (CDF) committee has forewarned the scrapping of the funds and said the move would not affect the MPs but the education sector and hinder the development.
Led by their Chaiman, Oriago Otiacho, they said most of secondary school students in the constituency are allocated bursaries ranging from Sh8,000 to Sh15,000, while those in post-secondary school institutions get bursaries ranging from Sh10,000 to Sh200,000, and the move would see them stop education process instantly.
“Currently, we have development projects and am sure they would be so much affected and not only in Bonchari but from other constituencies, let the government look at that and consider letting the funds flowing to the Constituency,” said Otianyo.
He also added that the MPs do not even take a cent of the money, since the committees are the ones that overlook the way the funds are being used.
This comes barely days after the ruling was made by Justice David Majanja, who said the Constituency Development Fund Act undermined the spirit of devolution and the principle of Separation of Powers, and gave the government one year to amend the Act.
