Parents from Bonchari Constituency in Kisii South Sub-County, have been warned against neglecting their children with special needs.
A call has been made to parents to treat their children living with disability equally especially when it comes to the provision of education.
Sacred Centre for Orphans and Widows Programme, chief executive officer, Robert Gutwa has raised a red flag over cases of neglect affecting children with special needs in the area.
Speaking on Thursday to this writer in Kisii town, Gutwa whose organisation deals with vulnerable children and other disadvantaged groups in the society, regretted that some parents in the area treated their children with special needs as social outcasts or bad omen to their families.
"I am reminding all parents from this community that it is wrong for them to discriminate their children with special needs, with some of them isolating the children from their siblings, something that traumatises them socially," she said.
Gutwa tipped local communities on the importance of importance of giving their children with special needs a chance to access education as other siblings to avert discrimination and social isolation on the disadvantaged children in the society.
"As a parent, I am encouraging local parents to enrol their children with special needs in school, to ensure they access education alongside their peers and build their self-esteem," she urged.
