The World Bank will sponsor a Sh60million Mother-Child Health Care facility to be facilitated at Bondeni Maternity Hospital in Nakuru town.
Dr. Custodia Mandlhate, the country World Health Organization (WHO) representative while speaking to journalists during a sensitization tour at the maternal health care facility on Friday after the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding at the Nakuru County Deputy Governor’s office, said the facility would target at serving mothers and children from the town’s informal settlements apart from serving as a referral centre for the whole of Nakuru County.
She noted that the facility, which will open doors in August will also improve other maternal health services at the hospital, after receiving a facelift and maternal and childcare equipment and drugs.
“This is a deserving project that was reached at after long discussions and plans between WHO and the county government. This facility will serve mothers and children from the marginalized areas of the town and county who have no better access to maternal care services due to poverty,” said the representative.
“It is encouraging because the county government has been seriously lobbying for sponsorship for such a facility,’’ added Mandlhate.
Mandlhate further said that the organization would closely monitor the facility with an aim of expanding it to serve more mothers and children to prevent maternal death and early mortality in the region.
