Bondo Sub-county hospital mortuary has been voted the best department at the facility during the Bondo Sub-county hospital award ceremony held on Sunday.
The mortuary department scoped the best overall award after beating tight competition from other five departments namely Curative, Diagnostic, Rehabilitation, Preventive and Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC).
Stakus Owino, the Mortuary In-charge was voted the best employees of the year in the individual award category followed closely in the second place by Ashlyne Adoli (Dental) and Dr Evans Ogodi (laboratory) who emerged third.
According to the chairman of the of the Employee Award Committee David Odira, the departments and individuals were awarded after thorough assessment of professionalism, compliance to required standards of operations and feedback from members of the public.
The morgue department, Odira said scored highly because of its efficient service delivery to the public and the overall transformation of their services over the past one year.
Bondo sub-county hospital superintendent Dr. Ochieng Adhoch lauded the department and staffs who scooped top awards for their remarkable achievements.
Dr. Adhoch observed that the workers at the mortuary department under the leadership of Stakus have been able to transform a once desolate facility to one that is preferred by the many people in the Bondo and the neighboring regions.
Further to mention, Dr. Adhoch said the winning department had exhibited high level of professionalism and hygiene which has won back the trust of the public who had earlier on preferred to use private facilities.
The medical superintended said the idea of recognizing and awarding employees at the public hospital has been borrowed from the private sector where employees have excelled after recognition.
Siaya county Chief Officer (C.O) of Health Dorothy Owino who also graced the event, acclaimed all the hospital employees for their commitment to work.
The C.O stated that the county government has already committed funds to address the perennial water shortage at the facility in the next few weeks and also improve working conditions for the employees to enhance service delivery.
