Deputy President William Ruto has threatened to sue human rights activist Boniface Mwangi over defamation through social media.
Through his lawyer Kioko Kilukumi, the DP said that Mwangi had linked him to the murder of Nairobi businessman Jacob Juma, something he said was malicious and negatively affected his identity.
“This tweet is false and malicious. The words in their ordinary and plain meaning are defamatory and they have severely injured our client’s reputation. His reputation as a national leader has been gravely undermined by the said tweet,” said Kilukumi.
According to Kilukumi, the DP’s side is already considering moving to court unless Mwangi acknowledged that he made a libelous post and consequently offer an immediate apology within seven days from Thursday.
“Failing this, our client will proceed to file an action against you for damages, both general and exemplary, among other remedies,” he said.
