Activist Boniface Mwangi has stepped up his bid to clinch the Starehe seat with the launch of his Ukweli Party.
On Monday, Mwangi said he is confident of unseating the incumbent MP Maina Kamanda in the forthcoming August general election.
He said the Ukweli Party seeks to give voice to the voiceless and ensuring a just society.
"Our name bears great responsibility and expectations from each one of us. It is a call to action from all Kenyans from all walks of life, religions, tribes, social strata and gender to take a liberating path of speaking truth to power," the Star quoted the activist.
He said Kenyans accused the electorate of choosing leaders based on tribal lines and party affiliations, adding that they are to blame for electing leaders whose integrity is questionable.
Any aspirant who doesn’t meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the constitution should not be allowed to contest in the August polls, he added.
“Go back to your villages and towns and elect the right people as MCAs and MPs. Let the people you elect declare their wealth and talk about their past so that you know what they have done....we must stop electing thugs,” stated Mwangi at Kenya House office in Nairobi.
He said his agenda in the National Parliament will among other things seek the reduction in salaries as well as the number of representatives.
The party’s slogan is “Nguvu kwa mwananchi”, which Mwangi noted will ensure people’s voices are heard in places where they have for long been ignored.
