An aspirant during the August 8 general elections has hit out at the Jubilee administration saying the regime is digging its own grave by arresting opposition leaders.

Boniface Mwangi who contested for the Starehe MP seat and lost to Charles Njagua said the government's high handedness on opposition chiefs may only end up worsening the situation in the country.

[Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi banned National Resistance Movement as a criminal group. The government is digging its own grave by deliberately targeting NASA supporters who make up the NRM movement," Mwangi said on his official Facebook page on Tuesday.

"The same government has been quietly supporting Nairobi Business Community, a vigilante group that emerged after August 8 elections. What NASA supporters are going through is persecution for their political beliefs."

The latest of the NASA leaders to be arrested is opposition chief Raila Odinga's former adviser Dr Miguna Miguna who is said to have been arraigned in court iin Kajiado despite having been arrested in Nairobi last week.

Others who have so far been arrested but released are Ruaraka MP Tom Kajwang and Makadara MP George Aladwa.

Also targeted are Siaya Senator James Orengo, Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho,  Homa Bay woman rep Gladys Wanga, Simba Arati (Dagoretti North) and Babu Owino (Embakasi East).

"Lawyer Miguna Miguna has been charged for being present and consenting to administer Raila Odinga’s oath. The police allege the oath taker, Raila Odinga committed a capital offense (I don’t think so)," Mwangi said.

"If police allegations are true, arrest Raila Odinga and stop harassing witnesses. Instead of President Uhuru Kenyatta working hard to win their hearts and minds, his government is foolishly hardening their resolve."
