Residents of Bonyunyu have asked the government to process for their title deeds for easy compensation before the construction of controversial Bonyunyu dam starts.
According to the locals, they fear losing their land once the construction of the multi-billion project begins because the processing of the documents is slow.
“We will have no option other than allowing the project to start but we want to have our land titles in place to help us follow up on the compensation.
"We fear our lands may be taken away without compensation,” said Tom Okondo, a resident.
This comes after Nyamira County Commissioner Isaiah Nakoru asked the locals to have the land titles before the construction of the project starts for easy compensation.
Nakoru said the locals should allow the project to start because the dam will address water shortages and create thousands of jobs in theregion.
