A book vendor was on Friday arraigned in a Nakuru Law Court to face charges of being in possession of stolen property.

Meshak Ongaki 34, first accused the court under the precision of Principal Resident Magistrate James Mwaniki was told that on January 26 this year in Njoro town was found with ten text books belonging to Njoro Girls Secondary School Library illegally and which he was offering for sale.

The second accused Moses Wainaina 27, who worked as a casual employee at the school was charged for masterminding to steal books worth Sh7,000 from the school’s library on diverse dates of January 2015.

According to the prosecution, the first accused was arrested by police officers from Njoro police station after investigations carried out by the school’s library staff and security officers identified him as a suspect in a library books theft syndicate that has been going on for some time since the second accused was employed as a casual employee attached to the library mid last year.

The court was told that the accused upon interrogations by police confessed that the second accused had been supplying him with textbooks he claimed he bought from form four leavers.

The prosecution desk indicated that the school’s library head had complained of missing books and requested the security team to help in carrying out investigations after suspecting the casual employee who used to open the library every morning for cleaning.

The two were remanded after failing to raise a cash bond of Sh30,000 each. The case will be heard on February 27.
