Business operators in Kisumu county on 25th December 2015 recorded an increase in profits thanks to the Christmas day festivities. Most of those who had a booming business were the bouncing castles and swing operators, face painters and snack vendors.
At the Jomo Kenyatta sports ground where most of the day’s fun activities took place, both the young and the old participated in activities to remember the day.
Vincent Lawi who sells water told this Hivisasa writer that by 2 pm, he had made three times the money which he had used to purchase the bottles of water in the morning. Lawi added that he was optimistic that the trend would continue to the New Year.
“I hope to see people flock the town till the 1st of January. That would enable me to make enough money to start January 2016,” said Lawi.
Derrick Ochieng who is a form four leaver also had all reasons to smile this season. As an art student in high school, Christmas is the time where he could show the world what he studied. Using different colours, he makes patterns on children’s faces. He charges twenty to fifty shillings depending on the pattern and the colours used.
