Frontier Optic and Djibouti Telecom will be working with EGS in laying a fibre optic cable along the Northern parts of Mombasa.
This was revealed during a meeting between a delegation from the two companies and Mombasa County Deputy Governor Dr William Kingi, on Tuesday.
The DG indicated the EGS was currently working on the routes for the cables which upon landing would enhance internet connection and communication within the county and the entire region.
"We hope that the landing of these cables shall also trigger more competition in the sector which shall lower costs of service and increase use by marginalized groups like the youths," he said.
With more connectivity and lower rates in the county, Kingi said there should also be an increase in innovation for small scale businesses and also more convenience for working from home initiatives.
"As County government, we welcome this project and shall grant the necessary support to its full implementation," said the DG.
