The County Government of Mombasa In partnership with Medicins Sans Frontiers (Doctors without borders) has refurbished and expanded the Mrima hospital in Likoni Sub-County to an ultramodern, comprehensive emergency maternal and neonatal centre.
The 46-bed capacity hospital, Governor Ali Hassan Joho said, will be equipped to a fully fledged maternity wing and a theatre and will cater for both inpatient and out patients.
He disclosed that MSF was in the process of hiring medical staff to beef up the existing team.
"The one stop facility will also serve as training centre to healthcare professionals across the country," he said on Saturday.
Upon completion, the hospital will reduce the burden to mothers who had to endure the pain of crossing the Likoni channel to seek medical attention at the Coast General Hospital.
