Mombasa County's Health Services CeC Hazel Koitaba together with Chief Officer Medical Services Dr. Khadija Shikelly and the Coast General Hospital Chief Administrator Dr. Iqbal Khandwalla received surgeons specialized in new Hernia repairs from BARD Company, South Africa.
The Doctors were received in Mombasa on Thursday, April 19, for a 5-day visit.
Koitaba said they would train county surgeons the new techniques of managing and handling Hernia, with the organizers targeting to do 90 operations.
Hernia is one of the most common cause for morbidity and mortality in both children and adults.
There are different types of hernias commonest being inguinal, ventral, umbilical and incisional hernias.
A study done last year shows that Coast General Hospital receives 1,200 patients a year both electives and emergencies.
In view of the large numbers every year, the facility organizes camps in order to reduce back log, train intern/registrar doctors and also to learn newer and better techniques of repair.
