The National Cancer Control Programme held a workshop in Kisumu to officially roll out the Cancer Control Strategy Paper, which will be the guiding document in management of Cancer Control Programme.
The workshop brought together cancer control practitioners from across the region at the Jumuia Hotel on Tuesday.
It was graced by County First Lady Dorothy Nyongo, a key player in the Cancer management arena and the founder of African Cancer Centre, with Deputy Governor Dr Mathew Owili officially opening it.
While addressing the participants, the First Lady stressed that the fight against cancer was real, huge and for all stakeholders, adding that screening for early detection saves lives.
Owili, however, decried the increasing cases of Cancer within the county.
"It is for this reason that the County Government has signed an MOU with Cancer Care Communication Organization, Merck Pharmaceuticals and Maseno University to establish the Western Kenya Comprehensive Care Centre at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital to offer chemotherapy and palliative care to cancer patients in the region," said the DG.
The workshop was also attended by Dr. Kibachio Mwangi - head of Non Communicable Diseases Division at the Ministry of Health, Kisumu Ag. CO for health Dr. Onyango among others.
