President Uhuru Kenyatta has promised to support the cashew nuts sector at the Coast.

The President made the revelation on Wednesday while addressing youth at State House Mombasa.

"We must look into ways of working together in cashew nut farming among other income generating activities," he said.

He spoke after commissioning a street lighting project in Mombasa town.

He promised residents that their Identity Cards will be issued to them soon.

He made the revelation after residents complained that some people's ID cards had delayed.

Among those who attended the State House event were Cabinet Secretaries Joseph Nkaissery and Najib Balala.

Uhuru visited the Coastal town at a time politics is hitting up in the region that overwhelmingly voted for Cord leader Raila Odinga in the 2013 general election.

His visit is viewed by analysts as a ploy to try to convince the electorate in the region to support the Jubilee administration in the 2017 general election.

Coast is among regions in the country which have frequently been visited by the President.
