Togo has once again committed to fully supporting Foreign Affairs CS Amina Mohammed in her bid for the African Union commission chair.
In a joint press briefing on Tuesday at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Togo President Faure Essozimna Gnassingbe expressed optimism that CS Amina will emerge as the winner ahead of the elections scheduled for January 2017.
"I can promise that we will do whatever we can to support Kenya’s candidate for AUC chairperson position. I know your vision and I am sure that if the Kenyan candidate is at the head of the commission, it will be good for Africa," he said.
The Togolese President first declared his support for CS Amina Mohammed on October during President Uhuru Kenyatta's visit to Lome, Togo to attend the African Union Maritime Security Summit. He has been in the country on an official visit.
He was also the chief guest during this year's 53rd Jamhuri Day celebrations held at the Nyayo National Stadium on Monday.
