Ex-Mungiki leader Maina Njenga's Laikipia senatorial bid has been handed a major boost after Kanu party leader Gideon Moi endorsed his candidature.
Speaking in Nanyuki over the weekend, Moi urged Laikipia residents to back Njenga's bid, observing that he will fight for their rights at the Senate.
“Njenga has been a leader throughout his life, fighting for the rights of fellow Kenyans. Give him the chance to fight for your rights at the national level,” Moi said.
“We are facing the same challenges of bandit attacks in Baringo and Laikipia counties. With this common menace, I believe Njenga is up to the task to deal with insecurity once and for all," he added.
On his part, Njenga vowed to ensure that security in the area is restored, after a series of banditry attacks.
“We know the people involved in these raids and we shall deal with them because they are among us,” he said.
Njenga is seeking to unseat the incumbent Senator G.G Kariuki on a Kanu party ticket.
