Although Agriculture is the mainstay of the Taita Taveta economy, Governor Granton Samboja said the sector has been performing dismally in the recent past due to lack of extension services.
"However much support we give to our farmers in terms of funding, equipment and farm inputs, without extension services from our skilled officers they will not make it," he said, adding that his government had revived farmer training services to improve Agriculture in the county.
During a meeting with county extension officers, Samboja gave out 30 pumps and pesticides to the extension officers to help fight fall army worms that have been wreaking havoc in local farms.
He also gave irish potato seeds to Wundanyi-Mbale ward farmers.
"Our Agricultural performance has gone down that is why we no longer hold Agricultural shows like in the past. Through extension services we are sure to improve our Agriculture," he said on Friday.
The governor told the farmers that title deeds were their constitutional rights.
"When we give you these title deeds, you can use them to secure loans from banks to improve your livelihoods. I will therefore issue title deeds to local residents from next week."
