An elected MP in Nyamira County has promised to purchase fertilizers which should be given for free to tea farmers in his constituency.

North Mugirango MP Joash Nyamoko said he is committed to ensure locals ventures fully into tea farming throughout his tenure.

“Tea farmers lack fertilizers to top dress at their tea plantations. I have plans to purchase fertilizers which should be given to farmers for free to top dress at farms to boost growth of tea for high yields thus high income,” he said.

He urged locals to stop uprooting tea from their farms saying the government will arrest and prosecute farmers found uprooting tea.

“Farmers should plant more tea and not uprooting it. Agricultural extension officers should visit farmers in deep villagers and advise them accordingly on the importance of tea farming,” said the MP.

He asked KTDA management to ensure they don’t underpay farmers during bonus periods something he said has made several farmers to uproot tea from their farms.
