Tana River Governor Hussein Dado has received a major political boost after elders and youths from the Wardei community endorsed his re-election. A group of 400 delegates including elders and youth from the community said they will rally behind Dado as he seeks to defend his seat in the forthcoming general poll. Led by a section of elders from Garsen, Galole and Bura constituencies, the team called upon Speaker Nuh Abdi Nasir to drop his governorship ambition despite having been endorsed by another group. Nominated MCA Hassan Omar Kurtumo said that the community is not ready to back candidates who stand minimal chances of winning the seat when that time comes, adding that Dado will deliver victory in August. “We cannot gamble when we are already part of the current system. We have a few individuals who think politics is a gamble. We have clearly studied the situation before agreeing to endorse Mr Dado,” he said, as quoted by the Nation. Omar also said that their decision to endorse Dado is meant to ensure that the community is not left out during the formation of the next government. He also said that they are proud of the governor’s exemplary performance scoreboard. “We have a lot of faith in Mr Dado’s administration because despite this being a coalition government of Orma and Wardei, he has ensured Pokomo, Malakote and Munyoyaya are not left out,” he added. On his part, Dado said that he has initiated various projects across the county without any form of bias, adding that the residents can attest that he has done a good job that can warrant him another term in office.“Wardeis voted for me hundred per cent while my Ormas’ votes were divided in 2013. When I formed the government, I made sure, they benefited more than Ormas, but some people are peddling propaganda that I only cared for my people. I don’t want to say much because you are all my witnesses,” said Mr Dado.
