The Kipsigis Council of Elders have unanimously approved Bomet Governor Isaac Rutto's move to join forces with opposition alliance NASA ahead of the forthcoming coming general elections.

Led by the elders’ leader Philip Milgo and secretary Edwin Kimeto on Wednesday, the elders announced that they had endorsed Rutto's move, observing that the interests of the Kipsigis are best represented in the Opposition coalition.

“Nasa’s doors were widely open and welcomed the governor to talk with the party principals,” the elders said.

The outspoken governor joined NASA earlier this week and he is expected to be officially unveiled on Thursday during the alliance's meeting at the Bomas of Kenya.

He has reportedly joined the Opposition as an equal principal, alongside ODM Leader Raila Odinga, Wiper's Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi (ANC) and Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula of Ford Kenya Party.

“My move to join Nasa should not be misconstrued to mean that I have folded Mashinani party. We are joining Nasa as equal partners,” the governor said on Tuesday.
