Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has received a major boost after a new report showed that it was well-prepared to hold the repeat election on October 26.
African Electoral Observation Group released the report on Sunday titled 'Kenya’s Ground Zero' stating that the preparations for the fresh elections were going as planned in 43 out of 47 counties.
The observer mission however noted that not all registered voters would turn out to vote on Thursday.
The Group head Robert Foulster urged all Kenyans, human rights bodies and the international community to carry out their roles accordingly.
Foulster said that October 26 remains the only irreducible minimum for Kenyans, and the rights of those who intend to boycott and those who will vote should be respected. He also acknowledged that the electoral body was facing both internal and external attacks as it prepared for the fresh election.Robert condemned the attacks on IEBC officials as had been witnessed in Kisumu, Siaya and Homa Bay that had forced the postponing of training ahead of the polls.Mr Foulser called on Kenyan politicians not to interfere in the commission's work as it tried to perform its mandate of conducting the election.
