Elders drawn from the Borana Clan have endorsed Isiolo governor Godana Doyo for a second term after a four-day meeting with the elders in Kinna.
Speaking on Wednesday, both the president of the council of elders, Jatani Wako and organising-secretary Mohamed Ali confirmed the endorsement, saying they considered incumbency in deciding to back the governor.
“We all agreed that vying for an electoral position is democracy but we felt that it is right that Doyo continues. We want the incumbent to defend his seat in the coming August general elections because it does not make sense supporting a new candidate,” they said in a statement.
Godana's endorsement is a major blow to his closest competitor Hussein Golicha, who is also from the same clan with the governor.
Golicha has since rubbished the endorsement, maintaining that he will be in the ballot seeking the county's top seat.
