Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho's quest to defend his seat during the August 8 elections received a major boost on Saturday after he was endorsed by students, opinion leaders and other volunteers drawn from all institutions of higher learning within Mombasa.
In an event that was hosted by his running mate William Kingi in his office, the students promised to back Joho's re-election bid, promising to take an active role in the campaigns.In response, Dr Kingi, a former university don, promised that once re-elected, the county leadership will cultivate a good relationship with student organizations.He said the county government will create entrepreneurship opportunities to the students through training and easy access to the revolving fund.He also promised to expedite the disbursement process of the county education bursaries and continue creating more scholarship opportunities both locally and internationally for the needy students in the county.Both Joho and his Jubilee Party rival Suleiman Shahbal have been busy consolidating their numbers in a bid to tilt the scales in their favour during the August 8 polls.
