Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho and his Kilifi counterpart Amason Kingi have received a major boost after youth in Lamu vowed to back them in their push for secession. The youth said the Coast region has been marginalised for many years, adding that seceding will ensure their problems are addressed. Led by their chairman Mohamed Ali Said, the youth claimed that top government officials have been making empty promises whenever they visit the region during the campaign period.Mohamed said the Coast region has registered the highest rate of land grabbing than any other county, adding the government has done little to change lives of the residents. The youth argued that they fully support the secession debate, adding that they will be happy to see the region acquire self-rule.“As the youth here, we fully support the calls for secession. We shall be very glad if one day we become a country of our own so that we get to choose our leaders and live our own lives," said Mohamed, as quoted by Baraka FM.Joho and Kingi have maintained that they will continue with the push for the region’s self-rule amidst tough criticisms from different factions.
