Stakeholders in the Matatu sector in Uasin Gishu county have pledged to rally behind President Uhuru Kenyatta in the upcoming repeat presidential election.

Led by the Uasin Gishu Matatu Association Secretary general Sosteen Ruto, the stakeholders said they will help campaign for President Kenyatta to ensure he gets more votes in the county.

Speaking at the Uasin Gishu county headquarters in Eldoret town, Wednesday, the matatu stakeholders further challenged registered votes who did not take part in the August 8 polls to ensure they cast their vote in the October 26 repeat presidential election.

Uasin Gishu county with 450,055 registered voters had a 79 percent voter turnout in the August polls where 265,704 voted for President Kenyatta while NASA's Raila Odinga received 72,378 votes.

"We know there are over 100,000 people in this county who did not vote in August and we will do everything within our powers to ensure they take part in the repeat poll," said Ruto.

"As matatu stakeholders, we also want to declare our support for President Kenyatta and pledge that we will campaign for him so that he wins the repeat poll by a bigger margin," he added.
