The race for the Kilifi governor seat has taken a new twist after former aspirant Gabriel Katana joined Governor Amason Kingi’s camp.
Prof Katana was disqualified from the race by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Disputes Tribunal unit for allegedly being a member of two political parties; Wiper Democratic Movement and Vibrant Democratic Party. The politician, who was Kingi’s bitter rival in 2013 was hoping to make amends to his failed bid in August 2017. However, it was not to be as the IEBC ruling dimmed his dream. While receiving Katana, Kingi said the entry of the academician into his campaign team will be a game-changer in the August 8 contest considering his (Katana’s) immense following and knowledge on leadership matters.According to the vocal Governor, Prof Katana will help him serve the county better should he be re-elected.The development has dealt a major blow to Gideon Mung’aro who is Kingi’s main challenger in the race as he will be forced to change tact in his quest to unseat the incumbent.
