Bungoma Governor Ken Lusaka's re-election bid has been handed a huge boost following the endorsement of Sabaot elders.
Speaking on Wednesday, Sabaot Supreme Council of Elders chairperson Reuben Butaki noted that the community had resolved to back Lusaka's bid based on his performance during his first term.
"You are now the one who will defend us. Go for the second term without any fear. You have our blessings as a community. Na sisi sio watu wa kugeuka (We are not the kind of people who go back on our word)," he stated.
"We would like to see leadership and political stability. The roads being constructed in Mt Elgon will not progress if we change the county leadership structure in the elections. That is why we support the re-election of our sons (Lusaka and Chongwony)," he added.
Lusaka's Deputy Governor Hilary Chongowny hails from the community, which has about 70, 000 voters according to IEBC.
Lusaka is facing stiff competition from former Internal Security assistant minister Alfred Khang’ati (ODM) and Ford Kenya's Wycliffe Wangamati.
