Suba MP John Mbadi has been handed a major boost to his re-election bid after six legislators drawn from Luo-Nyanza vowed to support the ODM Party National Chair for a third term.
The legislators include: MPs Oburu Odinga (Nominated), Opiyo Wandayi (Ugunja), Sylvance Osele (Kasipul Kabondo), John Kobado (Uriri), Homabay Senator Moses Kajwang and Homabay Women Representative Gladys Wanga.
Speaking on Monday at Magunga shopping centre when Mbadi launched his re-election bid, the legislator argued that Mbadi has been an ardent supporter of Opposition leader Raila Odinga, and therefore deserved a third term to strengthen the Orange Party further.
“I want to request the people of Suba to give our national chairman another term as we need him in the next Parliament after Baba [Raila] has clinched the presidency,” the Star quoted Oburu.
Mbadi is set to face off with former Raila aide Caroli Omondi during the ODM Party primaries.
Omondi lost to Mbadi during the 2013 general elections.
The Suba MP announced that he will be vying for the Homabay gubernatorial seat during the 2022 general elections.
