Kilifi North MP Gideon Mung’aro's quest to dethrone Governor Amason Kingi has received a major boost after Kenneth Kamto and five other Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) members defected to Jubilee.
Kamto promised to work with Mung’aro as his running mate, to ensure Kingi does not retain power come August. The Deputy Governor was received to President Uhuru Kenyatta’s side by Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya at Dr Kraph grounds in Rabai. Kamto decamped to Jubilee alongside ODM national executive council member Grace Mboja, Dan Chome who contested for the Malindi seat, Rabai/Kisurutini MCA Kenga Mupe and Kilifi senatorial aspirant Ken Nyale.Speaking on Saturday after announcing his defection, Kamto accused Kingi of not only being lazy but also corrupt. He said Munga’ro will do a better job if given the mandate by the people of Kilifi. “I suffered under Governor Kingi and I have now decided to move out of ODM. Most people ask why I did not leave long time ago if I was being frustrated. I had to stay so that I could get enough evidence about the rot going on in Kilifi County. I now have a lot of information and I am ready to challenge any of the leaders in Kingi’s government in an open forum,” said Kamto, as quoted by The Star.On his part, Nyale accused Kingi of frustrating top county officials.
