ODM leader Raila Odinga has received a major boost after Ex-Multiparty democracy fighter Abuya Abuya supported his proposed date for another presidential election.
IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati had set October 17th as new date for polls following nullification of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s victory.
At Wilson Airport on his way to Nyamira, Odinga said he will only accept elections should IEBC meet a number of demands including allowing other Kenyans to contest.
“We have no issues going for elections but IEBC never consulted us. The commission must clean up the system by sending a number of officials home.
“My opinion is should they meet our demands, we are ready to go on October 24th of 31st of the same month. All we want is fidelity in the entire exercise,” he said.
He also wants proper scrutiny of IEBC servers adding that the responsible French company should explain what transpired at the eve of August 8 elections.
And IEBC having proposed that only Odinga’s name and that of Kenyatta to be included in ballot paper, Odinga said fresh elections paved way for any Kenyan ready to take part in the exercise.
But former MP Abuya Abuya says the dates will be ideal given that it will give IEBC adequate time to prepare.
“The dates are idea because it gives IEBC maximum time for preparation. I wish they should adopt them,” he says.
