The National Super Alliance (Nasa) presidential candidate Raila Odinga has received a major boost in his presidential bid ahead of the August 8 polls.
This is after a section of Maasai leaders from Kajiado and Narok Counties declared to support the Raila.
Led by Kajiado Governor David Nkedianye, Narok gubernatorial candidates Joseph Tiambati of ODM and Patrick ole Ntutu of Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM), the leaders converged in Narok and passed what they termed as the Suswa Declaration.
According to the leaders, they resolved to vote for the Nasa flag bearer because they believe he will protect their rights to own land. “As Maa speaking tribes we have made up our minds about who to vote for on Tuesday next week. And that is Raila Amolo Odinga of the National Super Alliance," said Nkedianye on Wednesday during a Nasa rally as quoted by Standard.
"We want Mr Odinga to assure us that the land cabinet secretary will be from the Maasai community as a clear demonstration that NASA is willing to help us resolve the land issue and implement the Truth, Justice and Reconciliation Commission (TJRC) report," Nkedianye added.
Several Maasai elders performed a ritual to bless the NASA leaders and endorsed the declaration by the political leaders.
