Kenya Sevens team captain Andrew Amonde has stepped up his recovery and will skipper the team in Australia and New Zealand.
His return to training ahead of the two series is a big boost for the team, especially with Oscar Ayodi out injured.
The Kenyan captain missed the two opening legs in Cape Town and Dubai after undergoing an operation last year.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Amonde said he felt great to be back in the team and is looking forward to the matches.
“Being back with the boys is great. We have quite a tough season ahead and it is great to return early enough,” he said.
The team did not have a good tournament in Cape Town, and Amonde wants them to improve in these subsequent legs.
“We had a couple of issues with game management and if we can correct that, then we can be in contention. Our strength and conditioning is great and as we started early, the boys are in good physical shape,” he added.
The team will come face to face with Argentina, France, and Wales in Pool ‘B’ in Sydney, Australia.
According to Amonde, they have set targets for the two series, and reaching the Main Cup quarters will be one of them.
The team will be named on Wednesday before flying out of the country on 19th for the tournament.
