Flamboyant Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko's gubernatorial bid has been handed a major boost with just 12 days to the polls, following the endorsement of his candidature by Gema elders.
Led by the group's co-chair Bishop Peter Njenga, the community argued that the lawmaker was best suited for the city's top seat, calling on the locals to vote him during the forthcoming general elections.
"We jointly endorse Sonko and his running mate Polycarp Igathe because they have a vision for Nairobi, which includes provision of much-needed services," he declared in a statement on Tuesday.
"We as the elders from the Gema and Kamba communities are fully behind you and pledge to convince our communities to vote for you again," he added.
The ceremony was also graced by Health CS Cleopa Mailu, former EACC Chairman Mumo Matemu and Ambassador Monica Juma.
